5 Overview
ConsumerLab.com BUYS products off retail shelves and tests them — manufacturers do NOT submit samples. This eliminates the 'best batch' bias inherent in manufacturer-submitted testing programs [1]. Products that pass testing earn the CL Approved Quality Product seal. ConsumerLab publishes detailed pass/fail reports including exact test results for subscribers. Founded in 1999, it has tested 6,500+ products across 900+ brands. ConsumerLab's weakness: it does NOT audit manufacturing facilities (USP and NSF do) [1][2].
