Belladonna
Atropa belladonna (atropine/scopolamine)
BannedEvidence: StrongRestrictedBelladonna (Atropa belladonna, deadly nightshade) contains tropane alkaloids (atropine, scopolamine, hyoscyamine) — anticholinergic agents that cause 'anticholinergic toxidrome': hot as a hare, blind as a bat, dry as a bone, red as a beet, mad as a hatter [1]. Homeopathic belladonna products have caused infant deaths (FDA warned about Hyland's teething tablets). At pharmacological doses, tropane alkaloids are PRESCRIPTION DRUGS (atropine). In supplements, belladonna appears in homeopathic preparations and some traditional formulas [1].
