6 Overview
The Soil Association is the UK's leading organic certification body, founded in 1946 by farmers and scientists concerned about industrial agriculture [1]. Soil Association organic standards are STRICTER than EU minimum organic requirements in several areas: fewer approved additives, higher animal welfare standards, and more restrictive processing rules [1]. The Soil Association certifies ~70% of organic products in the UK. For supplements, Soil Association certification means ingredients meet or exceed EU organic standards with additional restrictions. The 'Soil Association Organic' mark is highly recognized by UK consumers and carries premium positioning [1].
