About

Sulphite preservative and antioxidant. E223. Releases sulphur dioxide (SO2) which is the active antimicrobial form. All sulphite-releasing compounds must be declared on labels if >10mg/kg SO2 equivalent.

🚫 Contraindications & Warnings

ASTHMA: Sulphites are among the most important dietary triggers for asthma — can precipitate severe bronchospasm. Mandatory labelling in EU and USA if >10mg/kg SO2 equivalent. CONTRAINDICATED in sulphite-sensitive individuals. Destroys thiamine (B1). WHO ADI: 0.7mg/kg/day SO2 equivalent.
