About

White clay mineral (china clay) used as anti-caking agent, filler, and as an adsorbent for diarrhoea (Kaopectate). E559. Poorly absorbed. Has been used medicinally to adsorb intestinal toxins.

Adsorption of drugs and nutrients — take separately from medications. Aluminium content: may contribute to aluminium exposure (generally considered safe at levels used). Interferes with iron, phosphate, and tetracycline absorption. Pregnancy: pica craving for clay (geophagia) may lead to excessive intake — GI obstruction risk.
