Datura stramonium
Jimsonweed (thornapple) containing tropane alkaloids with highly variable and unpredictable concentration. All plant parts are toxic. Historically used as a hallucinogen. Responsible for numerous emergency department admissions and deaths globally. No therapeutic role as an unregulated supplement.
How it works (mechanism of action)
Acts on cellular signalling pathways relevant to the documented clinical indications. Contains bioactive compounds with enzyme-modulating, receptor-binding, or antioxidant properties studied in peer-reviewed literature.
HIGHLY TOXIC. Same anticholinergic toxidrome as Datura metel. All parts of the plant are dangerous. Seeds particularly concentrated. No safe dose as supplement. Contraindicated absolutely. Deaths from tea preparations documented. Banned as food supplement globally.
