Calcium carbonate (white pigment)
Calcium mineral used as pigment, bulking agent, calcium supplement, and antacid. E170. Excellent bioavailability when taken with food. Primary pharmaceutical tablet filler. Also used as food whitener.
How it works (mechanism of action)
Acts on cellular signalling pathways relevant to the documented clinical indications. Contains bioactive compounds with enzyme-modulating, receptor-binding, or antioxidant properties studied in peer-reviewed literature.
Hypercalcaemia: excessive calcium intake from multiple CaCO3-containing products. Constipation at high doses. Hypochlorhydria (antacid effect) — avoid taking with medications requiring acidic stomach (ketoconazole, iron, some antibiotics). Calcium supplementation concerns: some meta-analyses suggest increased cardiovascular risk with high-dose isolated calcium supplements.
