About

Natural red pigment betanin (betacyanin) from red beetroot. E162. Water-soluble. Not genotoxic. Very well tolerated. Beeturia (pink urine and faeces) may be observed — harmless. Stable only at neutral/acidic pH.

Beeturia: pink/red colouration of urine and faeces — harmless, may alarm patients. Stability concerns: degrades at high pH and temperature. Generally very safe. Dietary nitrate content minimal at pigment extract quantities.
