Galactooligosaccharides (GOS) are bifidogenic prebiotics derived from lactose. Used for infant gut health, immune development, and microbiome diversity.
How it works (mechanism of action)
Selectively fermented by colonic Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species producing short-chain fatty acids and reducing luminal pH. Increases faecal biomass and beneficial bacterial populations while inhibiting pathogens through competitive exclusion.
