Trihydroxy sugar alcohol used as humectant, solvent, sweetener, and preservative. GRAS. Natural byproduct of fat metabolism and biodiesel production. Used in liquid supplements, soft capsules, and as coating agent. Also used as pharmaceutical lubricant (suppositories).
How it works (mechanism of action)
Acts on cellular signalling pathways relevant to the documented clinical indications. Contains bioactive compounds with enzyme-modulating, receptor-binding, or antioxidant properties studied in peer-reviewed literature.

🚫 Contraindications & Warnings
Generally very safe. High doses: headache, nausea (osmotic effect). Laxative effect at very high doses (>180g). Diabetes: caloric contribution and modest glycaemic effect. Mild diuretic effect when taken in large quantities. Preserves moisture in products.
