Synthetic indigoid dye (indigo carmine) used as blue-purple food colouring. May cause allergic reactions in aspirin-sensitive individuals. Not included in EU mandatory hyperactivity label (unlike other Southampton Six dyes). Generally considered low toxicity at approved use levels.
