High-fructose syrup from Agave plant marketed as a low-GI alternative sweetener. Very high fructose content (55-90%) — higher than HFCS. Fructose metabolised in liver; associated with NAFLD and metabolic syndrome at high intake.

Very high fructose: NAFLD, dyslipidaemia, and metabolic syndrome risk at high intake. Lower GI than sucrose but high fructose load. Hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI): CONTRAINDICATED. Gout: uric acid synthesis stimulation.
